Fire razes living quarters in Sibu school; none hurt


SIBU: Teachers and students of SM Citizen were just about to start class on Friday (Oct 23) when they were greeted with a fire which almost destroyed a building in the school.

State Fire and Rescue Department said about 70% of the building was destroyed in the fire.

The first floor of the building was a living quarters. It housed a teacher and his two children, eight male students and nine female students.

The department added that the ground floor included a canteen and a storeroom.

"We received a distress call at 7.40am concerning a fire which broke out at SM Citizen," it said.

Firemen managed to get the fire under control at 8.15am. No casualties were reported.
