Attempt to smuggle contraband ciggies thwarted

KOTA KINABALU: An attempt by six illegal immigrants to smuggle in 19,900 cartons of contraband cigarettes ran aground after their boat was intercepted off Pulau Tetabuan in Sabah’s east coast.

A team from the Sandakan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained the men, believed to be Filipinos, and seized the goods while on patrol under Ops Benteng at about 2pm on Wednesday.
