11,000 chicks killed in coop fire




IPOH: Some 11,000 chicks died when the coop they were in caught fire in Sitiawan.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said a distress call was made at 5.36am on Friday (Oct 23).

He said the coop, measuring 9.2m by 183m with the chicks being reared at Pekan Gurney, was about 50% destroyed.

“All the chicks were burnt to death.

“The department managed to put out the fire completely at 9.45am, ” he added.
