Cook charged with raping grandmother

KAJANG: A 29-year-old cook has claimed trial in the Sessions Court here to raping a 57-year-old grandmother who lived in the same apartment building.

The man, who works at a fast-food chain, is accused of raping the grandmother of 20 grandchildren at an apartment in Semenyih between 2pm and 2.40pm on Oct 15.

He was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code and faces a maximum 20 years in jail and liable for whipping, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Norhana Sahat did not offer bail.

The accused asked the court to grant a low bail amount.

He said he no longer lives in the same building and would not harass the victim.

Judge Mohd Kafli Che Ali allowed bail at RM8,000 in one surety and ordered the accused not to go near the victim.

The court also ordered the accused to report himself to the nearest police station monthly until disposal of the case.
