Not a Han Solo moment: Biker riding ‘suspiciously’ turned out to be suspected burglar

KUALA LUMPUR: A suspected burglar was arrested after he tried to evade a police check near the Kuchai Maju area.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Zairulnizam Mohd Zainuddin@Hilmi said the incident occurred around 4.30am on Saturday (Oct 17).

"A team from the Petaling police station conducted an operation at Jalan Kuchai Maju, off Jalan Klang Lama when they noticed a man riding a motorcycle and behaving suspiciously.

"When police tried to stop him to conduct a check, the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was arrested shortly after he crashed his motorcycle at an intersection there," he said in a statement Monday (Oct 19).

He said police found several sharp weapons and tools believed to be used in house break-ins when they checked the bag of the 32-year-old suspect.

"We arrested the suspect and seized a knife, torchlight, five screwdrivers, two modified metal rods, a crowbar, a spanner set, bolt cutters, a chisel and a set of keys.

"During initial investigations, the suspect confessed to his involvement in several house break-in cases within the Brickfields area," he said adding that the suspect had a prior record for drug-related crimes.

He said the suspect has been remanded for four days.

"We are also investigating the case for carrying offensive weapons in public and obstructing a public servant from dispensing their duties.

"This should be a warning to the public to not carry or possess dangerous weapons," he said.

He urged those with any information on criminal activity to contact the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222.
