Man dies during fishing trip in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A general worker died during a fishing trip at the Batu 3 river in Sandakan.

The 42-year-old man was believed to have gone to the river to fish and catch crabs after finishing work at about 12.30pm on Friday.

“At about 1pm, people saw a body floating on the river and alerted the authorities, ” said Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Hamin.

He said no foul play was suspected, adding that there were no signs of injury on the victim’s body.

ACP Azhar said a post mortem would be conducted before the body is handed to the family for burial.

The case, he said, is being investigated as sudden death for now.
