KLANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has tweeted that restaurants in Selangor with a table for 10 can now have five people seated and dine together. He said the state government agreed to this new sitting arrangement after they met and discussed the matter with the state National Security Council, heads of City Halls and municipal councils in Selangor.
“Five people can be seated at a table for 10 with physical distancing, ” he said.
It is also understood that physical distancing between diners must be maintained at one metre each.
A round table for 10 people is commonly found in restaurants.
However, it is not known if the decision also covers long oblong tables found in coffee shops.
Meanwhile, Klang MP Charles Santiago said there was a lot of confusion about the number of people who could dine together per table in restaurants.
“There are too many numbers involved such as two, four and five people. So many are confused, ” he said.
Santiago said the type of table should be clearly stated.
“I believe it would be better if it states that the tables can take 50% of its original capacity to enable the public to understand better, ” he added.
On Thursday, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that under the conditional movement control order (MCO) in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, restaurants could only allow four persons to a table.
Initially, the Federal Government said only two people were allowed to dine together per table under this new round of conditional MCO, which is scheduled to end on Oct 27.
For coffee shops, Klang Municipal Council health department director Azmi Muji said they would continue to uphold the Federal Government’s four to a table ruling.
