KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan has decided not to contest in the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election.
Its chairman Datuk Christina Liew said the three parties involved – PKR, DAP and Amanah – came to the decision as the late Batu Sapi MP Datuk Liew Vui Keong was from their ally Parti Warisan Sabah.
“Our decision is a show of respect for Liew who contested under Warisan.
“Sabah Pakatan is a partner of the Warisan Plus coalition,” Christina said in a statement yesterday.
Barisan Nasional, SAPP, STAR Sabah and Parti Cinta Sabah earlier announced that they were sitting out the by-election due to the Covid-19 situation.
Christina said parties intending to contest the by-election must fully observe the SOP.
“Taking into account the lessons learnt from the recent Sabah state election, there is a genuine need to tighten the existing SOP in conduct ing elections,” she added.
