MELAKA: Melaka police took action against 521 individuals for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO) between Oct 1 and Oct 15.

Melaka Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said compounds were issued to 466 persons during this period, including foreigners.

He said all were male offenders.

"During today's operation, we issued six compounds.

"The violators were aged between 19 and 66," he said after leading a Covid-19 operation in Ayer Keroh on Thursday (Oct 15).

Many of the offences were related to failure to implement temperature checks at business premises and not wearing face masks in public places, he said.

On a separate matter, he said police detained 48 individuals, including 11 women, for gambling in open spaces during the MCO.
