PUTRAJAYA: A special meeting will be held on Oct 13 to determine the key dates to hold a by-election for the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat in Sabah, says the Election Commission (EC).

EC secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said the meeting would be chaired by chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh at its headquarters here at 10am.

"The EC has received an official notification from Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun on the vacancy in the Batu Sapi parliamentary seat.

"We will hold a meeting on Oct 13 to determine the key dates for nomination and polling," he said on Tuesday (Oct 6).

A press conference will be held after the meeting.

The Batu Sapi seat fell vacant following the death of Datuk Liew Vui Keong, 60, on Oct 2.

The Parti Warisan Sabah permanent chairman died of a suspected lung infection.

He leaves behind wife Datin Dr Lindai Lee and their four children.

This will be the 13th by-election after the 14th general election in May 2018.
