Jealousy suspected in woman’s murder

JITRA: Jealousy is believed to be the motive behind the murder of a woman found in the living room of a single-storey house in Taman Mahsuri here.

The 23-year-old woman was found with bruises around her neck and is believed to have been strangled.

Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Mohd Ismail Ibrahim said the woman was believed to have been killed by her male friend, aged 22, between 4pm and 9.45pm on Saturday.

The man was detained at 3am yesterday at his house in Kampung Empa, Mukim Derang, Pokok Sena.

Magistrate Mohd Hadi Hakimi Harun granted police a seven-day remand, which ends on Oct 10.

A neighbour who lives about 100m away from the victim’s house and who did not wish to be named said one of the victim’s housemates returned at about 9.45pm on Saturday and found her lying face down in the living room.

Kedah CID chief Senior Asst Comm Sapii Ahmad said the victim had worked as an insurance agent in Bandar Darul Aman.

“The suspect is a night market trader and the motive of the murder is believed to be jealousy, ” he said.

SAC Sapii said the victim had been staying at the rented house for nearly three years with two other housemates.

“Both the housemates were not at home at the time of the incident, ” he said.
