PUTRAJAYA: Three Election Commission (EC) officers who were on duty during the Sabah state election have tested positive for Covid-19.
EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said the three were now at Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
"Yes, three of our officers have tested positive and are now in hospital.
"All the officers who went to Sabah for the election, including myself, are observing the 14-day home quarantine," he said when contacted Friday (Oct 2).
Ghani said he was unaware as to how and where the officers might have contracted the virus.
However, according to sources, two of the officers were infected by the index case for the Selasih cluster in Putrajaya.
The EC had deployed 28,656 officers to Sabah for the state election where polling day was on Sept 26.
It is learnt that disinfection exercise had been carried out in several places in Putrajaya, including a school, a bank and the house of one of the Covid-19 patients.
