KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan has stepped down as federal deputy tourism, arts and culture minister following his appointment as Sabah Deputy Chief Minister 2.

He told Sin Chew that he sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin earlier on Tuesday (Sept 29).

He was also appointed Sabah Agriculture and Food Industry Minister under new Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, who was sworn in earlier on Tuesday.

Kitingan's Sabah STAR won six state seats for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition in Saturday's state elections.

The GRS coalition won 38 seats, with three independents supporting it, to form the new state government, taking over from the Warisan Plus coalition led by Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal, which won 32 seats.

Sabah STAR became part of the Perikatan Nasional Federal Government when Muhyiddin took over earlier this year.
