KOTA KINABALU: Yang di-Pertua NegeriTun Juhar Mahiruddin has met with Sabah Bersatu chairman Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor and state Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin at Istana Negeri but the question on who will be the next chief minister is still unanswered.
"The Yang di-Pertua has asked for more time to make a decision," Bung said when met at the gates of the Istana on Sunday (Sept 27).
It is learnt that both forwarded necessary documents to support the formation of a state government under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and believed to have forwarded their names for the chief minister's post.
They will allow Tun Juhar to decide on the choice of candidate for the chief minister position.
Sabah STAR president Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Datuk Jahid Jahim were also present when they met Tun Juhar at Istana Negeri around 2.30pm Sunday.
Bung did tell reporters before heading to Istana Negeri they will let the Governor decide on the choice of chief minister.
“Wait, leave it to the TYT, ” he did not elaborate on whether both Umno and Bersatu had agreed on which party will hold the chief minister position.
All GRS assemblymen from Sabah Barisan, Perikatan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah met at the Magellan Sutera Resort earlier Sunday and are believed to have discussed the choice of candidate.
Hajiji and Bung are front-runners for the position and both Umno and Bersatu were pushing for their candidate to be chief minister.
It is still not clear what deal has been struck between the GRS parties who hold 38 seats with three independents backing the alliance following the Sept 26 state polls.
