Shafie declares polling day a state public holiday

KOTA KINABALU: A public holiday has been declared in the state to allow eligible voters to cast their ballot, says Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The declaration of the public holiday today is based on Section 9 of the Sabah Ordinance, the caretaker chief minister said in a statement.

Besides complying with the health advisory issued by the Health Ministry, Shafie urged voters to follow the standard operating procedure set by the Election Commission and local authorities.

“Avoid crowded, confined spaces and speaking in close proximity,” he said.

He also urged Sabahans to wash their hands frequently and wear face masks in public.
