MELAKA: The Melaka police have arrested a suspect over a murder case involving human remains found in the boot of a burnt car.
Police arrested the prime suspect, who in his 30s in Terengganu a few days ago, which brings them close to wrapping up the investigation.
Police had earlier arrested the victim's 26-year-old wife and three others from Johor to help in the probe under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
It also learnt that police arrested several other suspects recently, in addition to the four.
Melaka CID Chief Asst Comm Mohd Nor Yhazid Idris said the motive of the murder was still being ascertained.
He said the remains were identified as those of a 31-year-old man, who is the father of one child.
On Sept 17, Alor Gajah Fire and Rescue Department made the gruesome discovery after extinguishing a vehicle fire at the Pulau Sebang light industry site in Alor Gajah.
Firemen found a black plastic bag containing human remains in the boot of the razed car that was parked in front of a workshop and alerted Pulau Sebang police.
The car was earlier towed by the workshop's owner from the Ayer Keroh rest and recreational area along the North-South Expressway at 4pm on Sept 15.
The car had mechanical glitches, but the driver had not settled the towing fee and the vehicle was left unattended to by the workshop.
It is yet unknown how the vehicle caught fire.
