KOTA KINABALU: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and all Sabah MCA leaders have tested negative for Covid-19 after undergoing screening following reports that several Umno leaders caught the disease while campaigning.
Dr Wee said his test results came back negative from the Putrajaya District Health Office on Tuesday.
“I returned from Kota Kinabalu on Sunday and I went for the Reverse Transcription Polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test the next day in Putrajaya.
“Thank you to those who cared and asked about me. I am okay, ” he said on his Facebook post, ending the sentence with an okay emoji.
Adding that he was praying for those who tested positive and that they would get well soon, Dr Wee said he was back in Sabah to continue with MCA’s campaign after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
In Sabah, state election steering committee chairman for MCA Dr Pamela Yong said all the state MCA leaders had been tested for Covid-19.
“Fortunately, all the test results came back negative, ” said the Sabah Wanita MCA chief.
Umno supreme council member Mohd Razlan Rafii and information chief Sharil Sufian Hamdan, who were campaigning in Sabah, had tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr Yong said as soon as they found out that Shahril tested positive, all MCA leaders who had been in close contact with him were sent for screening.
Meanwhile, Dr Wee, who was in Sandakan, also spent time engaging with several representatives of domestic bus operators from the district yesterday.
“I remain open and ready to listen to the operators on their problems. Before this, I have had many meetings and dialogues with various operators and industry players relating to the public transport industry.
“The ministry and other agencies will conduct comprehensive studies on all the memoranda I have received to find solutions for the benefit of all, ” he said.
