Four drug syndicate members held, including student

KAJANG: Police busted a narcotics syndicate with the arrest of four of its members, including a student from a public higher educational institution.

The swoop came after police arrested a 24-year-old man at a parking lot in Menari Simfoni, Balakong, following a tip-off.

“Checks on the suspect led to the find of a compressed pack of suspected cannabis.

“Follow-up investigations then led to a raid at a house where three more suspects were arrested, ” said Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan when contacted yesterday.

Police found another 2.36kg of suspected cannabis, both in compressed and liquid form, at the house, as well as packaging equipment.

Also seized during the raid was RM1,200 in cash.

The value of the seized drugs is estimated to be about RM6,540.

Asked whether the student was involved in distributing drugs to his peers, ACP Mohd Zaid said the police would investigate from “all angles”.

“Two of the suspects were previously arrested for criminal and drug-related cases.

“Urine tests on all four suspects came back positive for tetrahydrocannabinol or cannabis and all were remanded for six days until Sept 29.

“Preliminary investigations showed that the syndicate was active in trafficking cannabis within the Klang Valley for the past two months.

“It is believed that the drugs seized could have been used by 872 drug users, ” he said.
