GEORGE TOWN: All 42 DAP MPs will back Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister if he has the numbers to form the government, says Lim Guan Eng (pic).
The DAP secretary-general, responding to the Opposition Leader’s announcement that he already had enough support from MPs to form a new Federal Government, said: “In line with the decision of the Pakatan Harapan presidential council, all 42 DAP MPs will support Datuk Seri Anwar as prime minister if he has the numbers to form the government.”
DAP vice-chairman Chow Kon Yeow welcomed the announcement by Anwar, saying: “The people are looking for a strong and stable government to lead the country.
“A strong and caring government is what the people are looking for and I hope Anwar will be able to form such a government to bring the country to a common destiny, with a strong government to overcome the health pandemic and restore the socio-economic balance.
“But since no numbers were revealed with Anwar saying he will only announce it after being granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, we will have to wait for this to happen, ” the Penang Chief Minister told a press conference yesterday.
As for Parti Amanah Negara, its president Mohamad Sabu said all its 11 MPs from the party were in support of Anwar.
“As was decided during the Pakatan Harapan presidential council before this, Amanah confirms that all its 11 MPs will fully support the leadership of Anwar and have given him our trust to form a new government, ” he said.
He said this in reference to Anwar’s announcement claiming he had the majority support to form the next government.
Former PKR deputy youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin downplayed the issue, saying that Anwar’s announcement was untimely as the nation was reeling from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Nothing much was presented just now and we shall wait and see, ” he said.
