KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Bung Moktar Radin says that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah is still intact as they go into the polls on Saturday (Sept 26).
“I am still in the kampung campaigning in Kinabatangan; everyone is busy campaigning, ” Bung said when asked why he did not join GRS' mega ceramah at Bakut View in Putatan near here Thursday (Sept 24).
“We are going into the elections together, ” he said, following his party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s declaration that the Umno MPs were free to back PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who claimed that he had the majority in Parliament.
Eyebrows were raised when Zahid and Bung were not seen among the GRS speakers at the Thursday nights’s ceramah, which was the final push of the opposition coalition to take on the Warisan Plus.
Zahid was slated to speak at the mega-ceramah in Bakut View, Putatan, according to an initial invite distributed to members of the press on Wednesday (Sept 23) evening, but his name was not included in the updated programme on Thursday.
Other speakers present in the mega-ceramah were Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Datuk Yong Teck Lee, Sabah STAR President Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) deputy president Arthur Joseph Kurup and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary general Datuk Jahid Jahim.
Anwar on Wednesday claimed that he had sufficient MPs to form a “strong and formidable” government to replace Muhyiddin as Prime Minister.
Anwar’s claims came at critical juncture when Sabah Barisan, Sabah Perikatan and PBS under the banner of GRS hope to win big in Saturday’s snap elections.
