KOTA KINABALU: All Sabah MCA leaders have taken Covid-19 tests with the results all negative, says Dr Pamela Yong.
The MCA state election steering committee chairman said as soon as they found out that Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan had tested positive for Covid-19, measures were undertaken to send all MCA leaders who were in close contact with him to undergo screenings.
“Fortunately, all the test results came back negative, ” said the Sabah Wanita MCA chief.
Dr Yong said MCA has complied with all the SOPs and regulations set by the government, including practising physical distancing throughout the campaign period.
“Therefore, we urge all parties to stop spreading fake news, ” she said.
It is learnt that unverified information claiming that MCA leaders had also contracted Covid-19 are being circulated via social media.
“That said, it is understood that while the election campaign is on and at its peak, all our campaigners, candidates and party leaders are reminded and strongly advised that at no point must the SOPs set by the Health Ministry be compromised, ” said Dr Yong.
She stressed that the health and safety of MCA candidates, leaders, party machinery and the general public are of the highest priority.
