MUAR: The man who went missing, along with his father during a fishing trip in Tanjung Emas here on Saturday (Sept 19), has been found dead.

Muar Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Jefri Jamal said the body of Muhamad Azwan Zainal, 25, was found at 9.30am on Monday (Sept 21), 3.8 nautical miles from where he was reported missing by the marine police.

The body of Azwan's father, Zainal Jerman, 61, was found a day earlier at 3.25pm on Sunday (Sept 20) with the help of local fishermen.

“Both bodies have been handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.

He added that a total of 20 firefighters were deployed to the scene to help with the search and rescue (SAR) effort.

The SAR operation was also joined by 16 Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel, six marine police and four police personnel.

The department has also deployed two fire trucks, two emergency response vehicles (EMRS), and one boat.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Zaharudin Rasip confirmed the report on the case.

The duo went missing around 4pm on Saturday after going fishing with two other anglers on two separate boats.

One of them had fallen into the sea before the other jumped in and tried to save the former.

The missing duo also experienced difficulties with their boat before the incident happened.

The other two anglers, aged 37 and 40, were unharmed.
