Indonesian man electrocuted at Sibu shipyard

SIBU: An Indonesian man lost his life after he was electrocuted while visiting his countryman at a shipyard in Sungai Sadit here on Sunday (Sept 20).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the victim, Andi Irfan, 20, from Sulawesi, Indonesia, died in the 10.58am incident.

"We received a call from the public informing that a body was found near the banks of the Batang Rajang river near a shipbuilding and repair area at Jalan Sungai Maaw, Sungai Sadit," he said.

"Examination of the victim's body by paramedics showed that there were burns on the wrist and bruises on the body believed to be due to electric shock," he added.

ACP Stanley said prior to the incident, the victim had gone to the shipyard to meet his compatriots.

He said the victim's body was sent to Sibu Hospital for a post-mortem.

"The Indonesian Consulate-General in Kuching will be informed for further action.

"We have ruled out foul play and classify the incident as sudden death," he added.
