GEORGE TOWN: It took about two hours for firemen to bring down the body of a 51-year-old hiker who died while trekking on Penang Hill.The man from Bayan Lepas was pronounced dead by a team of paramedics when they arrived at the scene in Middle Station, roughly halfway up the hill.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said it had received an alert from the public at about 6.30am yesterday.
“Upon reaching the scene at about 7.10am, we found the man seated motionlessly at Middle Station,” he said in a statement.
The team of nine firemen hiked down the steep trail, carrying the man’s body on a stretcher.
They reached the bottom of the trail at about 8.30am.
This is not the first time that tragedy has struck while people are hiking on Penang Hill.
On Nov 21 last year, a Penang Water Supply Corporation staff collapsed and died while on duty at the Heritage Trail on Penang Hill.
L. Krishnan, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.
