Two Rohingya men nabbed for violating enhanced MCO at Kota Setar

ALOR SETAR: Two Rohingya men were arrested for violating the enhanced movement control order (MCO) enforced in Kota Setar on Monday afternoon (Sept 14th) here.

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Nor Azman Mohd Noor said the two Rohingya men were arrested while riding on a motorcycle at Jalan Gunung Keriang by police around 5pm.

“The Rohingya arrested aged in their 30s.

“They were compounded for violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the enhanced MCO for leaving their house by more than one person.

“Action was taken on them in accordance with Section 270 of the Penal Code and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) (Measures in Communicable Areas) Regulations 2020," he said.

ACP Nor Azman also said the two men are in police custody and will be produced in court on Thursday (Sept 17).

Meanwhile, the Kota Setar Police, stated in a Facebook post that “Police had issued 62 compounds to 62 people for violating the enhanced MCO Sept 11 to 14.”

The compounds totalled up to RM62,000.

It also mentioned that two people were also arrested in the same period.

Kota Setar was placed under enhanced movement control (MCO) from Sept 11 to 25 following the spike of Covid-19 cases in the district.
