ALOR SETAR: Police have detected 10 lorong tikus or hidden routes in the Kota Setar district where the enhanced movement control order (MCO) is being enforced.
Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Nor Azman Mohd Noor said stern action would be taken against those who tried to leave the district via the routes.
“We are monitoring these exit and entry points at all times but we have not made any arrest so far. There were some who tried to use the ‘illicit’ routes to leave the district but we advised them to turn back.
“We will make arrests if the residents remain stubborn and continue to defy the enhanced MCO, ” he said.
ACP Nor Azman said they had closed three roads connecting Kota Setar with Perlis in Jitra.
“The measures have indirectly diverted all road users to roadblocks and those without a police letter to leave will be asked to turn back.
“For now, the level of community compliance is satisfactory at 99% but there are still some who remain stubborn and refuse to follow standard operating procedure, ” he said.
The enhanced MCO was implemented in the Kota Setar district after the Sungai and Telaga clusters emerged from a private hospital and Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Kedah.
The district is being placed under administrative enhanced MCO until Sept 25.
