Big tax break for Johor’s Chinese cemeteries


Huge relief: Chinese public cemeteries need only pay a land assessment rate of RM10 starting this year, a big help to cemetary groups who operate on a non-profit model.

JOHOR BARU: Chinese public cemeteries need only pay a land assessment (cukai tanah) rate of RM10 starting from this year, allowing the land owners to save up to 4,400% in taxes.

Adviser to the Johor Mentri Besar, Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, said the condition was that the burial land in question must be for non-Islamic religious and non-commercial usage.
