PETALING JAYA: Sabah voters should not forget how Parti Warisan Sabah under the then Pakatan Harapan federal government failed to rule the state properly, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said the state election was the opportune time for people to change for a better state government that put priority on the people’s welfare.
“We should not forget the Warisan-Pakatan failure in governing Sabah properly.
“This is the time for the people in Sabah to revert to the Barisan Nasional state government for a better future, ” he said at the Kapayan MCA command centre in Kota Kinabalu yesterday.
Dr Wee was addressing staff of the MCA and Barisan election machinery.
Sabah MCA will be contesting in four seats in the election that went into full swing with the nomination of candidates yesterday.
The party is fielding Lu Yen Tung in Kapayan, Dr Chang Kee Ying in Likas, political analyst Chew Kok Woh in Karamunting and Chan Boon Thian in Elopura.
Throwing his support behind Lu, Dr Wee said the Kapayan MCA division chief was chosen for his vast knowledge on community and local issues.
“He is not a parachute candidate. Yen Tung is well known in the community. We field a heavyweight here because this is a traditional MCA area and it is important to us.
“I am confident that he will play his role as the people’s representative in the state assembly and be the voice of the people in Kapayan, ” he said.
Wee added that MCA had won two terms in Kapayan before this.
Warisan, said Dr Wee, had ruled the state for 26 months but was not able to solve many grassroots issues such as floods.
“They were the (state) government for more than two years and if they can’t solve the flood problems for two years, then they should let us take over, ” he said.
He also alleged that former finance minister Lim Guan Eng had withdrawn an allocation to upgrade the Donggongon tamu (traditional farmers’ market) in Penampang that had been approved by the previous Barisan administration.
“Strangely, the previous two-term Kapayan assemblyman from DAP did not fight for the farmers’ market when Lim was the finance minister for 22 months. Why?
“DAP did not do what they preached. When in power, nothing was done.
“That’s why we should change the government to Barisan for the development of infrastructure and economy, and for the betterment of the people, ” he said.
