KOTA KINABALU: MCA will be taking on DAP, which is contesting under Warisan’s logo, in three constituencies in the Sabah election.
In total, the Barisan Nasional component party is contesting in four seats, double the amount it was allocated in the 14th General Election in 2018.
Sabah MCA chairman Lu Yen Tung (pic) said the party hoped to be given the opportunity to serve the people in all four constituencies.
Lu, who is contesting for the Kapayan state seat, said Sabah MCA had shown its commitment to serve and safeguard the welfare of the Chinese and Sabah communities.
MCA is also fielding dentist Dr Chang Kee Ying at Likas, political analyst Chew Kok Woh at Karamunting and contractor Chan Boon Thian at Elopura, which is a known DAP stronghold.
There are seven candidates vying for the Likas seat including Tan Lee Fatt, DAP’s one-term incumbent assemblyman.
Dr Chang, 32, is the youngest and is expected to pose the biggest challenge to Tan.
All seven candidates have set up a WhatsApp chat group with the aim of discussing common issues.
“I am glad we are on the same page to serve the people and to keep things clean. I am here to learn and accept suggestions on how to better serve the people of Likas, ” said Dr Chang.
Sabah DAP will be contesting in seven seats – Likas, Luyang, Kepayan, Bingkor, Elopura, Tanjung Papat and Sri Tanjong – in the Sept 26 polls.
