MIRI: A statewide operation against illegal gambling saw police and Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) cutting off the electricity supply to 203 premises over the past 24 hours.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Asst Comm Denis Leong said the premises are fronts being used as illegal gambling dens.

“The 203 premises had their electricity supply cut off instantly.

“The police and SEB carried out the joint ops.

“These premises were used as fronts for online gambling, illegal 4D operations and other forms of gambling.

“We thank the public for giving us good information that enabled us to detect these illegal activities, ” he told reporters in a briefing here Saturday (Sept 12).

The operation was carried out simultaneously in major urban areas like Miri, Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu, as well as small towns like Limbang, Sarikei, Lundu and others.

SAC Leong said the operation will be intensified in the coming days.
