KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR had full autonomy to negotiate with the Warisan Plus coalition over seat allocations, says Datuk Christina Liew (pic).
The Sabah PKR chairman was responding to criticism that they were under the control of national party leaders.
“Every step we take, we consult the secretary-general and party president because we are a national party.
“When it comes to state interests, they will refer that back to us because we are in charge of Sabah, ” said Liew during a press conference held at PKR’s headquarters in Penampang on Friday (Sept 11).
During the press conference, Liew affirmed her leadership as state party chairman, saying she was the one who signed a statement declaring that PKR would contest seven seats in the coming state election, which is half of what it demanded during negotiations.
“I was the one who issued the statement yesterday (Sept 10). It was signed by me, the Sabah PKR chairman. We confirmed seven seats, ” she said.
Liew said now that seat allocations had been settled, she would meet division leaders across the state to plan its campaign strategy.
Liew also distributed endorsement letters to its candidates during the event.
Sabah PKR Youth chief Raymond Ahuar was selected to contest at the Sook constituency and Liew will defend her Api-Api seat.
Ahuar was abruptly dropped as Liew’s political secretary last February.
The other constituencies which PKR will contest at are Matunggong, Tempasuk, Tamparuli, Inanam, and Klias.
