KOTA ISKANDAR: Johor can conduct more than 2,000 Covid-19 tests daily for those going to and from Singapore under the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA), the state assembly was told.
Mentri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad (pic) said as of August 31,320 individuals have travelled to and from Singapore under the RGL while another 8,270 under the PCA.
“If this system is successful, I am confident that the Federal Government will open up the Johor-Singapore border as normal with planned and effective standard operating procedures (SOPs), ” he added.
Hasni was replying to Andrew Chen Kah Eng (PH-Stulang) at the Johor state assembly meeting here in Kota Iskandar on Thursday (Sept 10).
He pointed out that to ensure the SOPs would be adhered to and carried out well, the government has taken proactive measures by coordinating frontline agency involvement.
“The state government has spent about RM500,000 to support this initiative where we have both government and private labs available.
“We are able to conduct more than 2,000 tests daily, ” he said, adding that the state government was committed to thinking up the best steps to solve border issues between Malaysia and Singapore.
Hasni said border issues required cooperation on a global stage that must be planned comprehensively to get an inclusive result for all, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
