JOHOR BARU: An Indonesian died after his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle at a traffic light intersection.
The victim who was travelling from Skudai to Pontian died on the spot while the other rider coming from Pulai Perdana to Pulai Jaya was injured.
The incident took place at the traffic light intersection at KM26.5 Jalan Pontian-Johor Baru at 8.25am on Thursday (Sept 10).
“Initial investigations showed the deceased had jumped the red light when the incident took place, ’’ said Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.
He said the deceased suffered from head and leg injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
ACP Dzulkhairi said the body was sent to the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital in Kulai for a post-mortem.
He said the other motorcyclist, a 22-year local man from Taman Desa Permai, suffered leg injuries and was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Separately, a lorry driver and his attendant were injured after a trailer rammed the rear of his lorry at KM173 of the North-South Expressway (NSE).
According to Tangkak Fire and Rescue station operation commander Mohd Zamri Ayob, the incident took place on the southbound side of the highway at 12.38am on Thursday (Sept 10).
He said an emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) team and nine firemen were deployed to the scene.
“The driver of the trailer had left the scene when we arrived at the spot, ’’ said Mohd Zamri.
He said the lorry driver Muhammad Safuan Muhammad Fuda, 25, and his attendant Muhammad Afiq Md Din, who suffered from leg injuries, was sent to Tangkak Hospital.
The operation ended at around 1am.
