ALOR SETAR: The police busted a mini drug processing laboratory with the arrest of six people and seized 26.5kg of drugs worth around RM113,000.
State police chief Comm Datuk Hasanuddin Hassan said two drug raids were carried out separately at 4pm and 6.30pm on Monday (Sept 7) around Kuala Muda.
"In the first raid, an illegal syabu processing lab operated from a house was busted.A 50-year old man from Taman Kenari was arrested at the mini-laboratory," he said.
He added that the man tested positive for drugs and had a previous record of drug-related offences and theft.
"From the laboratory, police seized 2.87g of heroin and 2.56g of syabu as well as equipment and chemicals used to process the syabu. Based on further information obtained from the first suspect arrested at the mini-laboratory, another raid was conducted at a palm oil estate at Sungai Division," he said.
He said that the police nabbed five men and seized 12.52kg of heroin, 1.5g of syabu and 7.05g of cannabis in the second raid, .
"The suspects, aged from 21 to 36, were from Sungai Petani and Penang. Two of them tested positive of methamphetamine and cannabis, while all five have previous records of criminal and drug-related.
"The total value of the drugs seized in the two raids is RM113,000," he said.
Comm Hasanuddin said those detained have been remanded until Sept 14 to facilitates police investigation.
