KUALA LUMPUR: Media practitioners play an integral role in combating crime, especially in disseminating information that could assist the police, says Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim.
The Kuala Lumpur police chief said he fully appreciated the media's assistance in various aspects, including highlighting the successes of the police force.
"The cooperation between the media and the police is very important. I feel both entities complement each other towards successfully combating crime," he said in his speech during a media appreciation event at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters on Monday (Sept 7).
Comm Mazlan, who will take over the post of Bukit Aman Logistics and Technology department director, said media practitioners are frontliners too in reporting events and vital information especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We are grateful to the media who are risking their lives day in and day out in reporting occurrences even at the start of the movement control order (MCO) in March," he added.
Mazlan, who has been the KL CPO for more than two years, said he appreciated the cooperation shown from members of the press.
"I hope they will continue to give the same cooperation to my successor," he said.
Comm Mazlan also presented several media practitioners with certificates of appreciation during the event.
Comm Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin will take over from Comm Mazlan as the KL CPO.
