IPOH: It is up to the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia disciplinary committee to take any action against former Johor mentri besar Datuk Osman Sapian (pic) for allegedly campaigning on behalf of an independent candidate at the recently concluded Slim by-election, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
The Perak Mentri Besar, who is also Bersatu deputy president, said such cases would usually be brought to the attention of the committee for any action.
“If there is a report made to the committee, then it must be investigated and the person in question must give his statement.
“After the investigation, only then will a decision be made. Thus, I am in no position to issue any statement over the possible action, ” he told a press conference after receiving a courtesy call from Rural Development Minister Datuk Dr Abd Latiff Ahmad at his office here yesterday.Faizal was asked to comment on what action would be taken against Osman, who is Kempas assemblyman, following a viral video showing the politician allegedly campaigning on behalf of an independent candidate at the by-election.
On Monday, Pulai Bersatu division chief Ya’cob Atan said it would make an official complaint and refer Osman to the party’s disciplinary board for his alleged action.
Meanwhile, Faizal, when asked about a front-page report by a Malay daily on several states having signalled that their respective state assemblies would not be dissolved should a general election be called, said when the time came, it would be necessary to dissolve the state assemblies to pave the way for new polls.
“However, as of now, I have not received any news on the matter from the Prime Minister, so the state government is running as usual, ” he said.
In the report, it was stated that Kelantan, together with several states including Kedah, Penang, Terengganu, Selangor and Negri Sembilan, had indicated as much because they expected the election would be held for parliamentary seats only.
