PUTRAJAYA: Ops Benteng recorded the arrests of 83 illegal immigrants on Thursday, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Defence Minister said police also nabbed a smuggler and a "tekong" during the operation to curb foreigners from entering the country illegally and to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Authorities also seized a boat and five vehicles believed to be used to transport the illegals.

"The latest arrests show how committed the government is to act against those attempting to penetrate our borders illegally.

"Enforcement authorities will remain vigilant and be on the lookout to stop the illegal entry of foreigners," he said Friday (Sept 4).

Ismail Sabri said 79 roadblocks were set up by the authorities nationwide on Thursday as part of Ops Benteng.

Ismail Sabri said a construction site was given a warning by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) for not having standard operating procedures in place.

This was one of 22 construction sites checked by CIDB on Thursday.
