Wee meets MAHB top guns, discusses future direction and post-Covid-19 recovery

PETALING JAYA: The direction of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and the post-Covid-19 recovery period were among matters discussed between the new MAHB chairman and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

This took place at a meeting between MAHB chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Dr Wee at the Transport Ministry, where they also discussed the 2020 Operating Agreement (OA) between MAHB and the government.

“We also discussed the directions of the MAHB and the steps that will be taken for the short and long term during the recovery period post-Covid-19. The aviation and logistics industry were

among those badly affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Therefore, there must be a need for a mechanism or proactive approach to be taken immediately to ensure that the industry will continue to stand strong and generate income for the country, ”

said Dr Wee in a statement on his Facebook on Wednesday (Sept 2).

The meeting was also attended by group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, group chief financial officer (CFO) Mohamed Rastam Shahrom and MAHB stakeholder relations and regulatory affairs general manager Datuk Abdullah Kadir Bacha.

Dr Wee also expressed his confidence that MAHB under the leadership of its new chairman along with its board of directors and management team will be able to weather the tough times and take MAHB to the next level in the future.

In another post, Dr Wee welcomed Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Malaysia Ravshan Usmanov to the Transport Ministry in Putrajaya.

"We discussed matters involving the transportation industry, logistics and recovery steps of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Uzbekistan is ready to strengthen its diplomatic relationship with Malaysia by working together in the transportation, logistics and economic industry. Also raised was the partnership in providing training and producing more pilots, flight crew members and other resources linked to the aeronautical industry," he said.
