Student killed while visiting waterfall near Kuala Kubu Baru

PETALING JAYA: A student is believed to have died from a fall as he was appreciating the landscape at a waterfall near Kuala Kubu Baru.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Arsad Kamaruddin said that the police received a call about the accident at around 10am on Saturday (Aug 29).

"The caller reported that a man had gone missing while swimming at the waterfall," he said.

Early investigations revealed that the victim, known as Abdullah Ammar Mohd Sharimshah, 22, had gone to the Lata Medang waterfalls with two friends as early as 5am.

Supt Arsad said investigators believed that the deceased might have slipped and fallen while taking in the view and was later swept away by the currents.

His remains were retrieved by the Fire and Rescue Department and was airlifted to Taman Millennium before being sent to Hospital Kuala Kubu Baru, where a post-mortem revealed that Abdullah Ammar died due to a traumatic brain injury.

The police are now looking for witnesses to the incident and those with any information can call the Kuala Kubu Baru police station at 03-6064 1222.

The case has been classified as a sudden death.
