BALIK PULAU: Two jobless youths, including a teenager, were arrested for being involved in a robbery in Bayan Lepas here.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said a 25-year-old Indonesian man made a police report that he was robbed on Aug 13 around 6.30am.

“The victim was walking to the bus stop when a suspect dressed in a black jacket and armed with a machete told the victim to be silent and then grabbed the victim's duffel bag containing mobile phones and cash before fleeing the scene.

“The Penang Commercial Crime Investigation Department arrested the first suspect, a 23-year-old man who tested positive for methamphetamine and had a criminal record with three priors, in front of a traffic light in Gelugor and also confiscated valuables from the suspect belonging to the victim on Aug 18.

“On Aug 24, the northeast Commercial Crime Investigation Department arrested the second suspect, an 18-year-old man who also tested positive for methamphetamine, in Gelugor to assist in the investigation of robbery cases in the northeast district.

“We found that the two suspects could be involved in robberies against foreign nationals in Penang, involving seven cases in the southwest district and four cases in the northeast district.

“We believe, the 18-year-old man rides the motorcycle, while the 23-year-old man commits robbery.

“On Friday (Aug 28), the two suspects were arrested in connection with a case in the southwest district and a remand application will be made at the Georgetown Magistrate's Court on Saturday (Aug 29) for further investigation, ” he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 28).

Supt Anbalagan added that the suspects targeted foreign women and rob them either by breaking into their houses or when the women come outside.

“It was found that the suspect would enter the victim's house if it is not locked or left open.

“Therefore, we believe we can solve some cases that have been a concern, especially to victims consisting of foreign workers around the southwest and northeast districts, ” he said.
