PETALING JAYA: MCA plans to post pictures of Pakatan Harapan leaders riding motorcycles without helmets to prove that they are just as guilty in committing this traffic offence.
MCA central committee member Datuk Chew Kok Woh (pic) said this after former transport minister Anthony Loke brought up examples of Umno leaders not wearing helmets during the debate on the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2020 in Parliament aimed at reducing reckless driving.
"We have photographs to show leaders from PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) who were not wearing helmets.
"This also includes DAP. Does Loke want me to send him these pictures?" Chew asked.
Chew, who is Batu Sapi MCA chief, said Loke had been hypocritical in his criticism when he singled out former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for riding without proper headgear.
“MCA does not condone leaders who do not wear helmets, as they are setting a bad example.
“Motor fatalities in the rural areas are also the highest, and it is wrong to ride without wearing helmets, ” he said.
On Thursday (Aug 27), Loke showed a photograph of Umno leaders riding motorcycles wearing a songkok instead of a helmet on their campaign trail for the Slim by-election.
Loke, who is DAP national organising secretary, said he would be sending the pictures to the Road Transport Department so that summonses could be issued, among others, to leaders like Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Annuar Musa.
