BALIK PULAU: A 54-year-old man has been arrested for making a false police report, apparently because he was trying to stop his son from being issued a summons for riding a motorcycle without a licence.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan (pic) said the man made a police report on Sunday (Aug 23) saying that he and his 16-year-old son were riding on a motorcycle near Jalan Datuk Ismail Hashim in Sungai Ara Sg when they were robbed.

“The man said that an unknown rider on a motorcycle came from behind and snatched his son’s bag, causing his son to fall off the motorcycle.

“As a result of the ensuing investigation, the man admitted he had lodged a false police report earlier and that he did so because his underage son’s personal belongings were stolen in a motorcycle accident.

“The suspect made a false report as he was worried that his son would be issued a summons as he did not have a valid licence.

“The suspect was brought to the Balik Pulau Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (Aug 25) and was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code for lodging a false police report.

“The suspect pleaded guilty and was fined RM2,000, ” Supt Anbalagan said in a statement Tuesday (Aug 25).
