Aeon pumps up Merdeka spirit via telemovie

KUALA LUMPUR: Aeon Retail Malaysia is set to rally the patriotic spirit of Malaysians this National Day through its Kita Merdeka telemovie and Ayuh Kita Merdeka music video.

Set to air on TV3 at 10pm on Aug 29, the telemovie is a tribute of respect and appreciation to the nation’s frontliners, including those in essential products and services.

The music video is aimed at becoming a source of inspiration and strength to those who have lost their employment, facing any problems that may come in the future without giving up.

The introduction to Ayuh Kita Merdeka will be aired at 9pm on Aug 25 through Astro Ria’s Meletop programme, following which it will be made available for download via Spotify, Joox, and Apple Music on Aug 28.

It will also be uploaded on Aeon Retail Malaysia’s YouTube channel.

In conjunction with the telemovie and music video project, Aeon will also launch the 828 digital sales promotion campaign through myaeon.com.my.

The 63-hour campaign will start on Aug 28 from 10am and end on Aug 31 at 1am.

While the Kita Merdeka telemovie is among Aeon’s many corporate social responsibility projects, Aeon Retail Malaysia chief executive officer Shafie Shamsuddin said that it is also Aeon’s gift to the country and demonstrates its gratitude towards its employees, partners, suppliers and the entire ecosystem involved in ensuring sufficient daily necessities for the people throughout the movement control order (MCO) period.

“We appreciate the sacrifices made by the frontliners, including our employees, during the MCO and we understand the fear and restlessness their family members faced as their loved ones went to work as usual while Covid-19 cases were on the rise.

“As such, this telemovie is a sign of our respect for those who came to work without fail to ensure that the supply of daily necessities to citizens across the nation were always sufficient, ” he said.

He also shared his hopes that the telemovie can bring the patriotic spirit of Malaysians – especially among the youth – to the forefront and turn the Covid-19 pandemic into a catalyst for change in attitudes and characters, which in turn would contribute to the country’s economic development.

The telemovie, which focuses on a positive message to unite all Malaysians in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, tells the story of the difficulties faced by the country and Aeon, as one of the key retail players, in tackling the conflict and challenges faced since the start of the pandemic and the MCO.

It starred talents such as Azlee Khairi, Elisya Sandha, Fadlan Hazmi, Amy Mastura, Keith Foo, Riezman Ruzaini, Rahim Omar, Shiela Mambo, Ezzandra and Wilma Mohd.

It shows how Aeon’s management overcame the obstacles that came along in ensuring consistent food supplies in its supply chain and offering the best service to local communities during the MCO.

The telemovie also sought to highlight the continued support given by its management in motivating its employees and managing their emotions during the period.

In addition, it also displayed the successful initiatives undertaken by Aeon thus far, namely projects such as Personal Shopper, Projek Roti Putih, Projek Berkat Ramadan and Projek Aeon Rider.

The telemovie also introduced the Ayuh Kita Merdeka music video, sung by Aiman Tino and several artistes and created by Awi Rafael and Newsantara.

This, Shafie said, was to acknowledge the invaluable contribution and sacrifice of frontliners, including employees of Aeon and other supermarkets, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the daily needs of the community continued to be met.
