IPOH: Police are satisfied with the peaceful state by-election campaign in Slim so far and hope that this can be maintained.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain said there had been no reports of any untoward incidences and reminded the candidates and their respective campaigning teams to keep the peace.

“All three sides have been wise in their campaigns and talks. There have been no incidents reported so far and we want to maintain this,” he told reporters after flagging off 44 new Honda Civic 1.8 mobile patrol vehicles at the Federal Reserve Unit headquarters here yesterday.

“We want to remind all the candidates not to cause any provocation and to rile up their supporters,” he said.

“The police will continue with our duty to ensure there is no problem during the campaign,” he said.

Barisan Nasional’s Mohd Zaidi Aziz will face two Independent candidates – Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi and S. Santharasekaran – for the state seat.

Polls is on Aug 29 while early voting is on Aug 25.

On his transfer and appointment as the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director by the end of September, Comm Razarudin said although the transfer was a normal process, he was feeling bittersweet.

“A part of me is happy, and also sad. For me, it’s quite comfortable to work with the community in Perak,” he said, adding that he did not know who would be replacing him.

On the new fleet of Honda Civic cars, Comm Razarudin hoped it would improve the police’s performance and provide better service to the public.

He said the state police had 244 police patrol vehicles that were still in use.

“With the latest addition, we now have 288 units,” he said.

Among the district police contingents which will be getting the new cars are Ipoh, Hilir Perak, Taiping, Manjung, Batu Gajah, Kuala Kangsar, Muallim, Tapah, Kampar, Perak Tengah, Sungai Siput and Kerian.

Comm Razarudin said plans were also in place to replace the Proton Inspira vehicles with Proton X70 at some districts.

“We’ve planned for three districts, in Gerik, Pengkalan Hulu and Selama, to each receive a X70 in the future as part of the second phase,” he said.
