KOTA KINABALU: A special Umno meeting would be held soon to deliberate the dissenting voices calling for Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin to be replaced as the Barisan Nasional Sabah election machinery leader.
Bung, who appeared in high spirits when met at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, said that despite the criticisms against his leadership, he would continue to lead the party through the Sabah state polls.
“As a leader, I must lead Umno throughout Sabah. That is our main mission, ” he told reporters when met on Wednesday (Aug 19).
Earlier on Wednesday, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan had disagreed with having Bung leading the Barisan Nasional machinery for the upcoming state election.
He said having Bung, who is currently facing corruption charges, would jeopardise the party's chances of winning.
Bung, when asked if he sees Rahman’s remarks as a personal attack, said he appreciates every opinion on the matter.
Meanwhile, Sabah MCA chief Loo Yen Tung said that they fully support Bung to lead the upcoming state elections, adding that it was in line with the Barisan spirit.
“At the same time, with Barisan contesting in this state elections, it gives Sabah Barisan a high degree of autonomy to make the best choice and formulate the most effective strategy, ” he said.
Sabah will go to its 16th state polls on Sept 26.
