MIRI: The bodies of the 14-year-old boy and 47-year-old man who went missing in a river near the remote Long Aton settlement in northern Sarawak following a longboat tragedy on Saturday (Aug 15) have been found.

Search and rescue parties found the body of the missing boy, Franky Setiawan Jena, on Monday (Aug 17) around 4.30pm.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the body was floating in the river at a location about 15 minutes away from where he went missing.

The body of Eduin Jala was found around 9am Tuesday (Aug 18) along the riverbanks near the Long Sobeng longhouse.

Long Sobeng is about 90 minutes by boat ride from Long Aton.

The two victims were in a longboat with three other men during a fishing trip upriver of Long Aton when their boat smashed against a river boulder and capsized.

The three managed to swim ashore.

The group comprises workers carrying out some repair projects at SK Long Aton.

Long Aton is located in the Baram district in remote northern Sarawak, about seven hours by timber road from Miri.
