Scams, cost of living among topics to be discussed in Parliament today (Aug 17)


KUALA LUMPUR: Scammers, cost of living and Undi 18 are among issues which will be raised in Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Aug 17).

Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (BN-Baling) will be asking Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin the number of scam syndicates that have been active during the movement control order (MCO).

Azeez also wants to know what steps and actions have been taken to curb such activities.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (PH-Kulim Bandar Baharu) wants Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi to state in detail the measures taken by the current government to address the issue of cost of living.

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (PH-Muar) will be asking Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican what sort of programmes are being implemented to help better understand and increase the knowledge about democracy and statehood among youths, particularly those turn 18 soon.

The House will resume debates on the Supply (Reallocation of Appropriated Expenditure) Bill 2020 to pass a sum of RM7.867bil following the setting up of the new Cabinet in March this year.

Lawmakers are also expected to begin debates on the Temporary Measures For Government Financing (Coronavirus Disease 2019 Covid-19) Bill 2020 to set up a RM45bil Covid-19 fund.

Dewan Rakyat meeting began on July 13 and will convene till Aug 27.
