PETALING JAYA: A show-cause letter has been issued to the operator of a trailer that was involved in a fatal accident in Ipoh, which killed seven people, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
“The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) has issued a show-cause letter on Aug 13 to the operator of the trailer.
“The operator must reply to the letter within three days.
“Upon receiving the reply, APAD will compile its recommendations through its licensing committee on an appropriate action to be taken against the operator.
“The recommendations will be issued Aug 17, ” the Transport Minister said on his Facebook page yesterday.
On Aug 11, seven people, including two children, were killed while three others were seriously injured following a fatal accident at KM5, Jalan Keramat Pulai, Simpang Pulai, Ipoh, involving a trailer and a multi-purpose vehicle.
Meanwhile, Dr Wee held discussions with Azlinda Abdul Latiff, political secretary to the Prime Minister, along with APAD director-general Azlan Shah Al Bakri.
“We looked into ways to improve the well-being, safety and protect the livelihoods of taxi drivers nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak.
“The government is committed to ensuring that all transport-related groups are not left behind, ” he said, adding that the Prime Minister’s Office was also involved in improving public transport services.
