PETALING JAYA: A show-cause letter has been issued to the operator of a lorry that was involved in a fatal accident that killed seven people, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
“The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) issued a show-cause letter on Aug 13 to the operator of the trailer lorry involved in a fatal road accident at KM5, Jalan Keramat Pulai, Simpang Pulai, Ipoh on Tuesday, Aug 11,2020, which killed seven passengers and caused injuries to three others.
"The operator must reply to the show-cause letter within three days.
“Upon receiving a reply from the said operator, Apad will compile its recommendations through its licensing committee on an appropriate action against the operator.
“The recommendations will be issued on Aug 17,2020, ” said the Transport Minister in a Facebook post Friday (Aug 14).
He added the ministry viewed such accidents seriously and that action would be taken against violators.
“The ministry will not tolerate any violations of safety standards and practices. Operators that fail to do so will face the fullest extent of existing laws.
“The ministry will not hesitate to revoke the operator's licence and vehicle permit and pursue administrative and court action against errant operators who flout safety rules and regulations required in the terms of the operator's licence, ” he said.
On Aug 11, seven people, including two children, were killed after the minivan they were in crashed head-on with a trailer at the fifth kilometre of Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands in Simpang Pulai.
A man and two other children survived the accident.
