JOHOR BARU: None of the 11 Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) assemblymen will leave the party to join the newly-formed party of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Johor Bersatu secretary Solihan Badri said that while several Johor Bersatu members had told the party that they would quit, none were assemblymen.
"We (Johor Bersatu assemblymen) are solidly behind Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. There are no reasons for us to change our direction," he said.
He said this to the press on Friday (Aug 14) when met during a programme to introduce the Johor candidates who are contesting in the party's elections.
He added that while the formation of the former prime minister's party would in some ways affect Bersatu, it is too early to measure the extent of its impact.
"For now, a few Bersatu members have expressed their intention to leave the party but the numbers are small.
"Even in the branch level, only two chiefs (have expressed their intention to quit) and for division level, only one chief and several of its committee members. And we are ready to fill up the positions of those who leave the party with new members," he said.
